WHAT INSTRUMENTS DO YOU TEACH?

We currently have instructors for private lessons in piano, guitar, violin, keyboards, drums, voice, saxophone, flute, clarinet and trumpet.

HOW OLD SHOULD YOU BE TO START LESSONS?

We have students as young as 3 and as old as 83. You are never too old to begin music lessons.

I DON’T HAVE A PIANO or GUITAR BUT I REALLY
WOULD LIKE LESSONS. WHAT DO YOU ADVISE?

Having access to a piano or guitar for daily practice is really a must if you want to progress and get the most out of your lessons. I would suggest renting or buying a new or used one. A full-size keyboard will suffice for a while for piano lessons but soon you will need the real thing.

ISN’T THERE MORE TO MUSIC THAN JUST PLAYING
AN INSTRUMENT?

There sure is! The basics or fundamentals of music are also taught at the school. We believe every student should have a complete musical education that can be applied to their curriculum at the middle and high schools, church-related choral projects, musicals, etc.

I HEARD YOU HAVE A MUSIC COMPUTER LAB. WHAT IS THAT?

Here at the School of Music, students have the opportunity to enrich their music knowledge by using a wide variety of computer music programs. These are terrific programs geared to note reading and rhythm drills, developing ear training skills, chord and scale reading. Other programs include bios on the great composers, the orchestra and it’s instruments. Students at the School actively use over 40 software programs.

HOW QUALIFIED ARE YOUR INSTRUCTORS?

All our instructors have passed their Certification Level Exams with the School. These exams are basic music knowledge exams and pedagogy (music teaching) exams that are administered to each instructor.

Some instructors come to us with more education and/or experience than others, so their Certification Level will reflect that.

WHAT TYPE OF PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES IS THERE?

The School has recitals four times a year. Community Recitals are almost monthly. Students can elect to participate in Piano Guild Auditions, Music Teachers’ Association of California Certificate of Merit musical enrichment programs. No student is forced to perform if they do not want to, however.

HOW MUCH DOES A LESSON COST?

Thirty-minute lessons are between $36.00 and $42.00. Future lessons must be paid by the last lesson of the prior month for the entire next month. This payment ranges from roughly $144.00 to $210.00 per month, depending on the instructor and how many sessions are in each month. This payment reserves your lesson time.

WHAT IF I HAVE TO CANCEL?

The School requires a 24-hour notice of cancellation so that a make up lesson can be arranged, or a credit can be issued.
